The Breaking-TV Film Festival is proud to host the world premiere of "The Walker", a gripping short film directed by award-winning filmmaker Stephen Wise, on November 2nd, 2024, at the Curzon Bloomsbury in Russell Square.
"The Walker" tells the poignant and suspenseful story of an elderly man in physical therapy who refuses to use his walker, living in frustration and depression as he struggles to rehabilitate his knee. His life takes a terrifying turn when an intruder breaks into his home, forcing him to confront his fears and limitations. The film’s Hitchcockian influence, particularly in its tense build-up and exploration of vulnerability, brings a psychological depth to a seemingly simple story.
Director Stephen Wise, whose career began as a child making Super 8 films in Michigan, has gone on to make a significant mark in independent filmmaking. His past projects have won numerous awards, including "Sur'vi," which garnered over 20 awards and screened in more than 50 festivals worldwide. Wise has a reputation for blending strong character studies with high-stakes situations, and "The Walker" is no exception. Inspired by personal experience, Wise drew on his late stepfather’s refusal to use a walker during his recovery to craft the emotional core of the film. The director imagines what would happen if a person in a similar situation faced an emergency, and the result is a suspenseful and deeply human story.
In collaboration with Alex Hyde-White in the lead role, (Nominated for Best Actor 2024) Wise’s vision for the film flourished. Hyde-White’s nuanced performance brings the character’s internal struggle to life, capturing the pain and frustration of a man at odds with his physical limitations. Wise speaks highly of his collaboration with Hyde-White, praising the actor’s contributions to refining the script and shaping the character.
The film features a talented cast, including Anna Faulkner and Thomas Carter Rochester, and is backed by an award-winning production team. With Wise's trusted collaborators such as cinematographer Kevin Almodovar and composer A.J. Caruso, the film is elevated by its striking visuals, compelling score, and seamless technical execution.
Wise’s statement on the film highlights his passion for character-driven narratives: “I was inspired by Hitchcock’s thrillers, where an ordinary man faces extraordinary danger while battling personal obstacles. 'The Walker' explores how vulnerability can become strength in moments of crisis."
Don’t miss the world premiere of "The Walker" on November 2nd, 2024, as it promises to deliver suspense, emotion, and a compelling look at one man's fight to reclaim his life.
